Alfabeto Fotográfico
1. Hacer fotos
2. Editarlas.

Type of shots in photography (and cinema)
In photography, and in cinema, we speak about framing and different types of shots when we reference the portion of reality captured by the camera.
The different shots are classified in relation to the human figure (but they can be used to photograph any object), and the most important shots are:
![]() |
Detail Shot----Medium Shot
Extreme Close Up----Medium Long Shot
Close Up----Long Shot
Medium Close Up----Very Long Shot
Short Medium Close Up----Wide Shot
|
Every shot conveys something different:
- Wide shot: also known as a panorama shot, is used to set the scene, it shows a general view of a landscape, space or crowd where the action develops.
- Very long shot: shows complete human figures in relation to the environment.
- Medium long shot: one cuts the figure off from the knees.
- Short medium close up: The figure is shown from the waist up. It bring up closer to the person.
- Close up: a close shot which shows the head or face and therefore the character, their aims, their feelings...
- Detail shot: this directs our attention to a central point of interest which is something small (a hand, an eye...)
In
film, TV series', etc, if we pay attention we can see that they use
many types of different shots as a way of conveying what they want to
say.
A classic example is the film High Noon,
in which there is a sequence without dialogue, and the action is shown
exclusively through different shots of the different characters. It is
an incredible example of the use of different cinematic shots (also
applicable to comics, photography, drawing...)
Can you guess what is happening?
Have you noticed how and for what reason the different types of shots are used?
Pay attention to the music. What else can you hear?
The film, High Noon, is by Fred Zimmerman.

Dali & Disney
The film tells the story of Chronos, the personification of time and the inability to realize his desire to love for a mortal. The scenes blend a series of surreal paintings of Dali with dancing and metamorphosis. The target production began in 1945, 58 years before its completion and was a collaboration between Walt Disney and the Spanish surrealist painter, Salvador Dalí.
